How to build your business abroad - Department for International Trade

Trading with the EU has changed following the end of the transition period in 2020, representing an opportunity for businesses looking to develop an international presence.
The Department for International Trade (DIT) helps UK companies to develop their international strategy in a number of ways, securing UK and global prosperity by promoting and financing international trade and investment, and championing free trade.
DIT is an international economic department, responsible for:

  • bringing together policy, promotion and financial expertise to break down barriers to trade and investment, and help businesses succeed
  • delivering a new trade policy framework for the UK as we leave the EU
  • promoting British trade and investment across the world
  • building the global appetite for British goods and services.

Further information can be can be found at trade.gov.uk and great.gov.uk, where you can find out more about the types of services DIT offer to businesses, from their Export Academy - that provides small and micro-businesses the know-how to sell to customers around the world with confidence - to their upcoming webinars that cover topics such as business preparation following the end of the transition period. Additionally, with regional bases across the UK, DIT offer the opportunity for businesses to work with an International Trade Advisor to help build their profile overseas.
