Weekly Media Roundup, 26-30 August
Government and campaigns
This week, the news cycle was blown away by the government’s announcement that they will shut down parliament in order to… well, that depends on who you ask! In response, we released a statement to Recruiter magazine, with Tom Hadley saying:
“The proroguing of Parliament will create constitutional shockwaves, at a time when the UK business community is clamouring for stability. Employer confidence in the economy is already at a low point in the lead up to Brexit; today’s developments will not help.”
Luckily for us, we had released our latest JobsOutlook report just before this announcement was made! The report showed that despite the uncertainty and employers’ low confidence, businesses are still looking to hire more staff in the coming months. The report was covered in the Daily Mirror, Daily Record, City AM, and on LBC radio news bulletins, as well as all our usual trade titles such as Global Recruiter, Staffing Industry Analysts and Talint International.
Other outlets such as Reuters and People Management focused on the news from JobsOutlook that employers are still worried about skills shortages, with particular worries in the public sector about capacity and a lack of health and social care workers.
This week we have also been finalising the next stage of our apprenticeship levy campaign – keep your eyes peeled for that next week!
