It turns out Boris Johnson moves house just like the rest of us - he spends most of the first day building a cabinet!

All headlines this week have focused on political upheaval in Westminster, with the appointment of Boris Johnson as Prime Minister and his Cabinet reshuffle. Neil Carberry responded to the news saying, “We look forward to working with the new team at Number 10 to harness the brilliant work that recruiters do to grow our economy and open up opportunity across the whole UK.”

We also welcomed Andrea Leadsom to the Department for Business, and Sajid Javid to the Treasury. Sajid Javid has previously endorsed broadening the Apprenticeship Levy, and we used this opportunity to remind him of our #trainingfortemps campaign and urge him to reform the policy – HR Review and onrec published our call online.

Two other major trade bodies, the CIPD and Make UK, have also published reports this week pushing for a broader training levy. Our campaign team will continue to push this agenda, in conjunction with other organisations and our members.

Away from Westminster, we published our latest JobsOutlook on Wednesday, which found that employers remain cautious about hiring in the current climate. Hiring intentions have remained stable, and most employers are at or close to full capacity. This news was covered on talkRADIO and in our major trade outlets: Recruiter, Talint International, HR Review, Staffing Industry Analysts and Executive Grapevine.
