Scottish Minister for Just Transition, Employment and Fair Work joined REC CEO Neil Carberry and REC members at our first CEO Spotlight of the year in Edinburgh on 2 February. During the meeting, the Minister talked about Scotland’s Fair Work Agenda, and the challenges and opportunities for Scotland, particularly in decarbonisation. Although this will involve putting some pressure on Westminster, including on things like investing in labour market activation schemes and getting our immigration system working for growth, there are also many areas where the Scottish Government and Scottish businesses can make an immediate difference.

The Minister asked us to set out our five key questions for officials in his department and in Skills Development Scotland (SDS) to consider, which we hope we’ll be able to discuss in more detail at a future member roundtable. Our five key questions relate to:

  1. Careers advice and skills pathways
  2. Workforce planning
  3. Scotland’s Flexible Workforce Development Fund
  4. Aligning standards in the energy sector
  5. Net Zero transition
