REC Announcement: Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Press releases

We are monitoring the spread of Coronavirus-19 and would like you to know that we are still running events as planned. If you are attending an REC event or meeting please consider the below.

Some areas of the world are more affected than others. The Government has issued specific advice to travellers returning to the UK and the advice they should specifically take. That advice is:

1. Stay indoors and avoid contact with other people if you’ve travelled to the UK from the following places in the last 14 days, even if you do not have symptoms:

  • Iran
  • Hubei province in China
  • Special care zones in South Korea (Daegu, Cheongdo, Gyeongsan)

2. Stay indoors and avoid contact with other people if you’ve travelled to the UK from the following places, even if you do not have symptoms:

  • Italy (since 09 March)

3. Stay indoors and avoid contact with other people if you’ve travelled to the UK from the following places in the last 14 days and have a cough, high temperature or shortness of breath, even if your symptoms are mild:

  • mainland China outside of Hubei province
  • South Korea outside of the special care zones
  • Cambodia
  • Hong Kong
  • Japan
  • Laos
  • Macau
  • Malaysia
  • Myanmar
  • Singapore
  • Taiwan
  • Thailand
  • Vietnam

4. If you exhibit any of the COVID-19 symptoms, please use the 111 online coronavirus service to find out what to do next.

  • In England call 111
  • In Scotland call your GP or NHS 24 on 111 out of hours.
  • In Wales call 111 (if available in your area) or 0845 46 47.
  • In Northern Ireland call 111

Whilst at an event

The REC recommends all delegates follow official UK government advice and where possible reduce the risk of people catching Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Do

  • wash your hands with soap and warm water often – do this for at least 20 seconds
  • use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available
  • cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze
  • put used tissues in the bin straight away and wash your hands afterwards
  • try to avoid close contact with people who are unwell

Don't

  • touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean

If you are attending our offices or an REC event and feel unwell:

  • You should try to move to an isolated area which is at least 2 metres away from other people
  • Try and remain at least 2 metres from other people, cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze and avoid touching people, surfaces and objects
  • If you need to go to the bathroom while waiting for medical assistance, please use one of the separate bathrooms if available
  • You should call NHS 111 from your mobile and explain which country you have returned from in the last 14 days and outline your current symptoms
  • Please make the relevant event organiser aware.

The REC will continue to monitor the spread of Coronavirus COVID-19 and may have to make changes to events at short notice as the situation develops. We will notify you immediately if we make such changes.
