Have Your Say on Travel and Subsistence Payments

Press releases

HM Treasury has opened a consultation on travel and subsistence payments.  HM Treasury has acknowledged the views of REC members, that the current treatment of travel and subsistence payments in the tax system is out of date.

As a first step to addressing the problem, HM Treasury is asking for businesses to let them know how they currently reimburse workers by 23 October 2014. These responses will be used to develop a framework for new rules that will come into effect sometime after the general election in 2015.

The REC is preparing a response to HM Treasury on behalf of our members. To ensure we provide a comprehensive response we are seeking the views of members on the following issues:

1. How do you and your clients use travel and subsistence payments?

2. How important is tax deductibility to your use of travel and subsistence payments?

3. What general principles do you believe should guide any revisions to the rules for travel and subsistence and are there any specific changes you believe are appropriate?

The REC is seeking contributions from members by 15 October 2014. If you would like to make a contribution, please provide your feedback by email to REC Policy Advisor Clement Sheil at the REC at clement.sheil@rec.uk.com. We will keep members updated with the consultation process as it progresses.

For further information on the consultation, see the consultation website.
