National Apprenticeship Week - Jack's Story

It's day four of our National Apprenticeship Week celebrations.

We're continuing our recruitment apprenticeship stories with today's from Jack Dinsdale, recruitment consultant at GEM Partnership.`

What interested you in becoming an apprentice in recruitment?

I wanted to build a career that would incorporate my sales skills with my love for dealing with people. When I was given the opportunity I jumped at the chance.

What do you enjoy most about being an apprentice working in recruitment?

Learning the correct ways to do everything. From the outside looking in, recruitment looks like an easy job/industry, but when you're dealing with the day-to-day tasks, you realise it isn't as easy as it looks!

What's the number one thing you've learned while undertaking your apprenticeship?

Patience. Sometimes things go smoothly and cause no issues, but sometimes they don't and you need to be patient and wait for the outcome.

What kind of goals do you have for your career?

I have now passed my apprenticeship and moved into a 360 consultant role at GEM. My next step would be becoming a senior consultant, after that I would like to become a divisional manager and take it from there.

What one thing would you tell yourself if you were just starting out?

Keep calm and remember everything isn't as easy as it seems. Things will be hard but work at it and you'll be fine.

Would you recommend an apprenticeship in recruitment to others?

Yes, I'd recommend recruitment to anyone. It's an industry that you can really make a name for yourself with a little bit of hard work.
