Four Recruitment Apprenticeship Myths Debunked

We think recruitment is a great career choice, and apprenticeships are one of the best ways to get into the industry.

But a lot of young people tell us they're put off by recruitment for a number of reasons - most untrue.

Here are four of the biggest myths about apprenticeships and recruitment and why they're completely wrong.

1) I'll just be making coffees all day

Apprenticeships aren't designed to humiliate. They're there to give you real world practice and insight into the industry.

You'll be expected to do the same kind of work as your colleagues, but you'll receive support and advice from your apprenticeship supervisor and boss.

Remember - this company doesn't want you to fail. They'll do everything they can to get you up to speed, so you can hit the ground running once your apprenticeship ends.

2) Recruitment's a dying industry

With job websites and social media being prolific, it's easy to see why many think recruitment is going out of fashion.

But recruitment is a big industry - and it's only getting bigger.

The UK recruitment industry is worth more than £28 billion, and the REC predicts it will grow by nine per cent over the next year.

More than that, recruitment companies are looking to hire young people with digital and social media skills.

It's far from being on its last legs.

3) The pay is rubbish

It's true apprentices get paid less than their full time colleagues, but recruiters enjoy a decent living.

The REC released the results of a survey last week that showed the majority of recruiters are happy with the amount of money they make.

More than that, the average recruiter enjoyed a 4.7% pay rise in the last year.

Recruitment apprentices who complete their course often go on to find jobs as consultants. That means money in the bank, if nothing else.

4) It's not as good as a course

Recruitment is an industry that offers great opportunities. Not only will apprentices gain a real insight on the day-to-day life of a recruiter, they'll be set up to learn more.

The IRP offers a range of recruitment qualifications to suit all levels of experience.

Many new recruiters enrol for our Level 2 Certificate in Recruitment Resourcing (QCF) before moving onto our Level 3 Certificate in Recruitment Practice (QCF). The Level 3 is considered the standard for recruitment practice in the UK.

But if you stick it out, you can also take on a Level 4 Diploma in Recruitment Management (QCF), and we're even looking to launch a Level 5 qualification in 2016. That's on the same level as a university degree.
